Phoenix and its surrounding areas have always been a draw for the retiree set, and apparently Scottsdale is the best of the bunch.

That’s according to WalletHub, which named the affluent East Valley city the fifth-best place to retire in a new ranking. Tampa, Florida, topped the list.

The personal finance website examined 150 American cities and ranked them based on affordability, jobs, activities, quality of life and health care to determine how good a fit they were for soon-to-be retirees.

Scottsdale boasted a strong quality of life and has a fair number of activities for the recently retired to choose from such as hiking trails, recreation centers, golf courses and places to volunteer.

However, affordability could have been better. The city was ranked 100 on that front.

Scottsdale was not the only Arizona city to make the list, nor the only to crack the Top 10.

Peoria was ranked No. 10 on the list, bolstered by its strong quality of life and access to health care.

Other Arizona cities on the list include: Tempe (18), Mesa (21), Tucson (24), Gilbert (26), Chandler (31), Glendale (36) and Phoenix (48).
