Joe Risi, longtime owner of the old Bandersnatch Brewpub in Tempe, is developing The Newport at Tempe, a 38-home project on Weber Drive just east of Scottsdale Road. Prices will start in the low $300,000s for the two- and three-story and three- and four-bedroom houses.

“The opportunity to purchase a new, completely customizable home while keeping on budget is a far-fetched dream to most homebuyers,” said Risi, an ASU graduate. “Between its schools, its climate and its burgeoning business scene, Tempe has emerged as an unbeatable locale to start a business or raise a family.”

Homes will range from 1,535 to 1,683 square feet and have two-car garages and rooftop decks.

Risi, who also develops homes in Newport Beach, Calif., plans to open a new restaurant called Revo Pizzabar. Revo Pizza will be located on the first floor of Tempe’s Transportation Center at 200 E. Fifth St.

That’s across the street from where Bandersnatch was located before closing in 2003.
