Arizona State University has expanded its Sun Devil Stadium renovation project to include a new 84,500-square-foot student athletic facility north of the stadium, the university announced this week.
That addition expands the project’s initial $210 million cost to about $256 million. The project is to be funded with system revenue bonds and fundraising. No taxpayer dollars will be used.
The expansion of the project comes on the heels of a combined $1 million donation from ASU Athletic Director Ray Andersonand head football coach Todd Grahamtoward the stadium renovation.
“The momentum behind what our alumni and supporters are doing for Sun Devil Athletics is truly remarkable,” said Anderson. “It enables us to expand our vision and to deliver a higher level of quality for our student-athletes and our fans. With deep gratitude, we are taking their enthusiasm and using it to reinvest.”
The athletic facility, to be built north of the stadium, will integrate into the existing stadium structure. It also will include office and administrative spaces, meeting rooms, support space, study rooms, storage and equipment space, locker rooms, lounge areas, training areas and conference space.
“The student athletic facility is a commitment from the university to the men and women who have the privilege of representing Sun Devil Athletics,” said Anderson. “Every student-athlete who passes through here will know their commitment to ASU is reciprocated not only through our coaches, trainers, and academic support, but also with our facilities.”
Other areas that will be improved, updated, or replaced at the stadium include the reconstruction of concourse levels, restrooms, concessions, electrical and plumbing upgrades, new club and premium seating, improvements in the lower bowl, modifications to the upper deck, and a new video board and sound system.
